Apprise Software customer Aldik, Inc. is in the final stages of getting ready to "go live" on Apprise® Distribution. As with most companies embarking on a broad-based ERP system implementation, the process has involved a lot of preparation and testing, and some system and process modifications. But, Aldik has discovered a powerful tool to help them get creative with their system, without requiring a lot of custom modifications or access to source code saving them time and a lot of money along the way. In fact, they estimate that Apprise® Design Studio has helped deliver implementation costs that are running at only about 25% of the cost they would expect for an ERP system implementation.
"We're using Design Studio to enhance the standard Apprise Distribution system to meet our unique needs, as well as to improve our user productivity and efficiency," says Eric Blumenkrantz, IT director at Aldik, Inc. Aldik is leveraging Design Studio to improve end user efficiency when working in the system by customizing fields on screens in areas such as order entry and customer and item maintenance. By adding, moving, hiding, and changing fields on the screens, they are able to create screens that are more logical to the way their users work and manage data, enabling them to work more productively. "With Design Studio, we can add buttons to screens that enable users to launch new screens within Apprise Distribution or to our own outside programs or applications, improving workflow and data accessibility," says Kevin Silacci, business analyst at Aldik.
Utilizing the Custom Program Wizard and Inquiry Wizard within Design Studio, Aldik is able to insert their own business logic within the application to automate various business processes as well as speed the development of custom reports. By applying their own algorithms, Aldik is able to automatically calculate freight, insurance, transportation and other costs to store and display landed costs and associated components. Using the Apprise Distribution screen structure as a foundation, they can also embed their own business logic to quickly create customizable reports that can be viewed, exported or printed in a variety of formats, all without the need for Crystal Reports, ODBC tools, or custom programming.
"Design Studio has made it much faster, easier and less costly for us to customize Apprise Distribution to meet our requirements," says Blumenkrantz. "And, the tool's unique design will enable us to easily and quickly stay current with the latest application releases by preserving our customizations even as we upgrade."
